A customer recently inquired about the addition of subwoofers to their brand new 2022 Ram 1500 Limited. This vehicle was equipped with the factory amplified Harman & Kardon audio system. It also has rear reclining seats so it limited us as to what enclosure could fit and mount under the rear seat. We sent him a quote and scheduled the truck shortly after that.
From front to back, a Stinger 4 gauge wiring kit was installed into the vehicle. All wiring within the engine bay was covered in loom. The sure holder was mounted securely roughly 8 inches away from the main battery. The power wire was then passed through the firewall using the drop loop method.

Because this vehicle has the factory amplified Harman & Kardon system, it is important to install a line output converter that can handle the additional power. The LOC-22 from JL Audio can handle up to 40V RMS per channel. It also features signal sensing. Signal sensing does not require a remote input. When the unit is given power and ground, it has the ability to detect when audio is being played then sending a remote output to our aftermarket amplifier.

Now it was time to make some room in the back of the vehicle. The installation of this JL Audio vehicle specific Stealthbox requires the rear seats to be removed. With all the seat bracket mounting bolts removed, this seat was pretty easy to come out.

The Stealthbox enclosures from JL Audio are known for being some of the best pre-made vehicle specific enclosures on the market. They are made out of fiberglass which is much stronger than standard wooden enclosures. This particular enclosure houses two of JL's revolutionary 10TW3 thin-line subwoofers and installs neatly under the rear seat, without compromising rear seat comfort. It also includes a left and right L-bracket that mounts to the factory seat brackets. With these in place and the box mounted, it does not budge.

This Stealthbox also features a pocket to mount an amplifier. This pocket fit the JL Audio RD1000/1 amplifier perfectly. With power, ground, signal, speaker and bass knob wires all ran to this location under the carpet and wrapped in Tesa tape, it give the system a clean and minimalistic look.

The vehicle was then reassembled. The rear seat was put into place and mounted. All trim panels were clipped back into place. Then onto the fun part. We tuned and tested the system and it sounded fantastic! JL never fails to impress with their TW3 line of woofers.

This little addition took roughly 6 hours to install and was done within a day. The customer was very pleased with the quickness, precision and neatness of this installation. He will be back for stage 2!
